Si bien la ley estatal tambi\u00e9n tipifica como delito el tr\u00e1fico de drogas, las investigaciones federales suelen contar con mayor financiamiento y ser m\u00e1s exhaustivas. Los procesos federales tambi\u00e9n suelen dar lugar a sanciones mucho m\u00e1s severas, lo cual se debe en parte al hecho de que los tribunales est\u00e1n obligados a aplicar pautas de sentencias m\u00ednimas cuando se trata de delitos federales relacionados con drogas. Por ejemplo, si a una persona se le encuentran entre 500 y 4,999 gramos de una mezcla de coca\u00edna, puede ser acusada ante un tribunal federal por tr\u00e1fico de drogas. Quienes cometen este delito por primera vez se enfrentan a una pena de prisi\u00f3n de al menos 5 a\u00f1os y una multa de al menos $ 2 millones.<\/p>\n<h3>Sanciones federales<\/h3>\n<p>Las penas de prisi\u00f3n impuestas a quienes han sido condenados por tr\u00e1fico de drogas a nivel federal suelen ser mucho m\u00e1s severas que sus equivalentes a nivel estatal.
