What Should I Do If the FBI Is Investigating Me or Trying to Contact Me?

Investigations file
|

The purpose of an FBI investigation is to obtain evidence sufficient to establish probable cause that a crime has been committed and that an accused person committed the crime(s) charged. If the FBI has attempted to contact an individual in an FBI investigation, it is highly likely that a Federal prosecutor intends to charge that person with a Federal crime and that an arrest may be imminent.

If a Federal law enforcement agent or police officer asks to speak to you, tell him or her that you insist to consult with an attorney first. It is almost always a mistake to waive your right by talking with the agents or signing a statement-no matter how friendly they appear or pretend to be. They are interested in getting you to lie to them so they can later prosecute you, or to get information from you which may incriminate you or someone else. They are not there to help you! FBI investigations are serious and anyone who is a target, a subject or a witness is well advised to retain competent criminal defense counsel.

If you are contacted by the FBI, you should promptly consult and seek the advice of an experienced criminal defense attorney. The criminal defense attorneys of Jeffrey S. Weiner, P.A. have extensive knowledge and experience defending criminal cases in Federal and state courts. We are ready to help you now. Call us before you talk with law enforcement agents!
